Hosting my first workshop

Hosting my first workshop

This year I’m trying to challenge myself.

Like many of you, public speaking terrifies me, so why not try it? I started off January with an interview on a podcast. Now February has come round and I’ve ticked off another goal on my bucket list.

Hosting a workshop.
I wonder what March will throw at me.

I’ve spoken about Super Slow Way before on this blog, and the cafe in Clayton Le Moors Community centre. Here is the setting to the story, where a community is growing due to free brews, friendly smiles and creative, how to sessions every Wednesday between 10am to 1:30pm. Find out more about the cafe here

It was a few weeks back when we sat down as a group and spoke about the upcoming ‘How to’ schedule, and this is the when it happened. I volunteered. Then the dread hit. Running a workshop… no way could I do it. Sounds silly doesn’t it? Being scared of showing a lovely group of people how to Lino print. Well I was, but it was that good sense of scared. The type that motivates you to at least give it a go.

As the week approached, I sent out ideas in the WhatsApp group and embraced the approaching Valentine’s Day spirit, with the full moon in our corner and set out to make ‘Self affirmation Lino print cards.’

My aim was to embrace positivity within the group, and provide some self love before Valentine’s Day.

Wednesday flew around quickly and the session went swimmingly. I started off the session explaining self affirmations, how to carve the Lino and how to print with it. Everyone dived in, helping each other as they went along. I was there on hand for any questions, ideas and help with the printing process.

The community created such beautiful pieces, and I was astonished on how much they enjoyed the session. Here are some of the artworks that people created.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to help my local community and explore new creative experiences with such lovely talented individuals. Also a big thanks to Super Slow Way for helping me with materials. I hope to do more in the future.

Thanks again for reading.

Until next time
